Pioneer Mountains
Tahepia Lake......possibly destined to be close within 3 months from changes within travel management policy. So MMBA decided to coordinate an advocacy/possible last ride hurrah. The 8 mile long trail gains 2400 ft and eventually drops you off at one of the more scenic high alpine lakes in all of western montana. Following the creekbed you weave in and out of logpole covered forests and wildflower filled meadows with clear mountain streams that cut away at their own aimless route. 24 folks gathered to bid fairwell to the fantastic trail and the trailside company was fantastic.

wed nighter
wed. night ride and our first ride up Blodgett Canyon this spring, we rode until the snow turned us back around which was just past the pack bridge. The trail is in perfect shape right now and a trail crew has recently been up there clearing downfall. There may have been a couple of logs laying across the trail but that pretty much qualifies as being near perfect for the Bitterroot. Thanks trail crew.

bitterroot beauties
these two older schwinn middleweight cruisers just arrived yesterday.....the ladies schwinn is a mid-60's American and is selling for $150 and the late 60's Jaguar with 5 spd drive train is selling for $120. Both bikes are good runners and will make perfect errand bikes.

bartlett wash
pretty steep.....i think this section was called the toilet bowl. It certainly resembled one at least.
back from the land of red sandstone
i've been absent on here lately.....i apologize for that. Spring business seems to have that effect on me and my ability to post on a regular basis. But since i snapped so many darn photos while down in Moab this past week i figured it was due time to update the ol' blogger. Posted are some of my personal favorites.
Moab Utah with good pals.
this was everyone's reaction as bdiddy dusted himself off after the ride down Jackson.

Stevensville Bike Safety
spent thursday afternoon up at the Stevensville Jr High, tuning and adjusting a total of 20 Schwinn Predator BMX bikes. Mostly adjusting bearings, tightening fasteners, lubing chains, and airing up the tires. After about 4 or5 bikes went by my brain went numb and it felt like full blown production work. Still happy to turn wrenches though no matter what shade of neon. Thanks for the work and inviting us up John !

seen
seen this old schwinn leaning against a fence post while out on a ride this past sunday. Decided to stop and take a picture of the old bike. Looks to be an old schwinn with a more mdern rigid mtb fork, and a few extra mtb parts. Who ever owns it appears to have even welded brake bosses on the rear for the addition of rear cantilever brakes....pretty darn cool.

26" Speedway
I recently had the opportunity to build up one of the Speedway Cycles Umma rims, at 50mm in width and a bunch lighter in weight than the Surly Large Marge, a wheelset with these rims should give a new quicker, lighter feel to those snow bikes or for the fella looking to add a monster sized tire up front of his mountain bike, which is what our pal Kevin is planning with this wheel. His black sheep titanium hardtail will soon be sporting a 26 X 4.0 Surly Endomorph tire up front, hopefully giving him the suspension he craves.
upon return
i head out for a few errands and return to a fantastic sampling of sushi and a bottle of really good saki. What a surprise ! Thanks thomas for taking care of us bike shop fellas. But you should have known that a 6 pack of blue cans and a bag of chips would have done just fine.

in the stand
Here's a couple of other projects that are currently in the stand:
Warwicks El Saltamontes in for a suspension overhaul and other bits of maintenence like a new chain, etc.
rear triangle removed, bike cleaned and inspected.
polish the stays while they're off the bike with an aluminum polish
and also a complete overhaul on Kevin's older carbon tubed Trek 2100, but what ..... what in the heck is this nasty looking white stuff lingering on the brake hoods. U-really don't wanna know.

rime
the results of 3 days of sub 20d temps with the combination of a foggy inversion. As of today....still no sunshine. And to think that above 5000ft in elevation the sun was shining and temperatures were approaching 50deg.
photo of a photo
the original photo was taken by 71 yr old Hamiltonian, Bobby Evans who was kind enough to give us a copy of the photo. Bobby also brought in an older Schwinn mountain bike for us to tune up as well. Double thanks !

inventory
end of the year buzzkill......counting hundreds of small parts, bicycles, frames, and forks. Then, having to pay some guy by the name of Uncle Sam money for parts that sit on my shelf, in boxes, or tucked away in drawers. In some cases, parts that have been at the barn for almost a decade, patiently waiting for the right customer to walk through the door. Inventory equals revenue. I suppose though if there was to be a beacon of light across the rainbow it would be the fact that dust collected upon bags of bike parts is the catalyst for value depreciation....as parts mature in age, they depreciate more in actual value. Thankfully, that's the way the government works it, cuz i've got waaaaay too much old stuff in here. Old stuff re-acquianted on a yearly basis that enivitably makes my eyes light up like a youngster at christmas.
